What is The DELTA Course?

The DELTA qualification involves developing both your theoretical and practical knowledge in completing three different modules:

  •  Module One – theory, assessed via an exam in June or December
  •  Module Two  – practice, with four assessed lessons and coursework
  •  Module Three – a specialism, with a course design programme created for your specialist area, i.e.teaching Exams, Young Learners, CLIL, and so on

The qualification is for teachers who wish to further their career in English language teaching, and are of a native or near native (C2) level of proficiency in English. How can we Help ?

University of Cambridge ESOL DELTA course options:

Module One - complete our 14 week online course:
  • Mainly asynchronous, but with some zoom tutorials
  • Prepares you for the Paper One and Paper Two exam tasks
  • Work on tasks individually and also with coursemates
  • Timed exam questions and mock exams included
  • online input sessions and access to a range of resources
  • Interaction with and feedback from our very experienced DELTA tutors / assessors through forum work, correspondence and zoom
Module Two - 2 course type options

Option a) Module Two intensive Mixed Mode 7 week course; 3 weeks online via Zoom video conferencing, and 4 weeks face to face at Clic IH Málaga (from mid July  – end of August) for October moderation / results by Cambridge

Option b) Module Two semi-intensive 14 week course; online via Zoom video conferencing (from February to May, Mon / Weds / Fri mornings Spanish time) for summer moderation /August results by Cambridge

  • Complete the coursework component, with five assignments and four assessed lessons, including the external
  • Includes methodology sessions, Teaching Practice with our students, feedback and tutorials
  • Access to a range of materials and resources
  • Delivered by our DELTA tutors, who are experienced assessors
  • Choose the mode which suits your needs best: Option a or Option b
Module Three - 14 week online course for June or December submission dates
  • Mainly asynchronous, but with some zoom tutorials
  • A wide range of specialisms available
  • Prepares you for each part of the course design assignment
  • Input sessions, video tutorials and resources available online
  • Feedback provided on each section of the assignment, and on the first full draft
  • Working with our very experienced DELTA tutors / assessors in completing the assignment

DELTA Module One

DELTA Module One Online course

A sixteen-week online Module One theory and exam preparation course. Available to candidates anywhere in Spain or all over the world, this course consists of 18 modules and prepares you for the Module One written exam offered in June or December. Candidates work on tasks together and independently, with regular input and feedback from tutors. Tasks include exam practice and a full mock exam.

Understanding language, methodology and resources for teaching (20 credits) This module focuses on the background to teaching and learning ESOL in a range of contexts.

  • Theoretical perspectives on language acquisition and language teaching
  • Different approaches and methodologies, including current developments
  • Language systems and learners’ linguistic problems
  • Language skills and learners’ problems
  • Knowledge of resources, materials and reference sources for language learning
  • Key concepts and terminology related to assessment

To help you complete this Module successfully, we offer:

  • A fully-comprehensive programme of input covering all key areas above
  • Thorough guidance, timed practices, feedback and a ‘mock’ exam in preparation for the Final Written Examination, taken here in our center.

DELTA Module Two

DELTA Module Two Online course

Our NEW DELTA Module Two online course is run extensively over three months (from February to May), and is available to anyone both locally based here in Spain or elsewhere. The class times for live online methodology sessions, lesson consultation  and feedback are Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings 9’30am  – 14’00 approx (mainland Spain time). The assessed Teaching Practice can take place either through live streaming of your lessons, or online via Zoom or a similar platform, or even possibly in-class if Seville based. This innovative programme has been designed to support you in completing this practical Coursework DELTA Module successfully!!

Developing Professional Practice (20 credits)This module looks at the theory and practice of teaching and a range of factors which affect teaching and learning:

  • The language learner and the language learning context
  • Preparation for teaching adult learners of English
  • Evaluating, selecting and using resources and materials for teaching purposes
  • Managing and supporting learning
  • Evaluation of lesson preparation and teaching
  • Observation/evaluation of other teachers’ lessons
  • Professionalism and opportunities for professional development

  • Input and individual guidance for your lesson planning
  • Input and individual guidance on choosing, planning and writing background assignments
  • Group or individual feedback on both assessed and unassessed lessons

DELTA Module Three Online course

This online course provides input and ongoing help with the Extended Course Design Assignment based on a specialist area. The course takes place from January to May for assignment submission in June.

Extending practice and English language teaching specialization (20 credits)

  • Research into specialist areas
  • Syllabus design: principles, influences on, methodological effects of, and major syllabus types as applied to the specific learning context
  • Designing syllabus and teaching programs to meet the needs of learners in the specific context of their selected specialization
  • Course design and development in the specific context of their selected specialization
  • The principles and practice of testing and assessment and application to the candidate’s specialist area
